Everyone loves a new bike. And something that makes a new bike even better is knowing that your bike was not only assembled in Canada, but also completely manufactured in the Great White North. The following is a list of 10 Canadian bike brands that make their frame sets inside our Canadian borders. Take a read and support your local bike builders.
We Are One
Founded in 2016 by Dustin Adams, We Are One designs, prototypes, and manufactures carbon rims, mountain bike frames, handlebars, and stems in house in Kamloops BC. Their flagship product, The Arrival bike, utilizes all of the company’s products and produces one of the finest enduro bikes around.
Archibald Cycles
As seen in a previous blog post, Archibald Cycles, from Vancouver BC, is making their AC1 frameset from stainless steel and using a Pinion gearbox. These custom made frames are works of art should not be slept on for a made in Canada mountain bike frame. We did a full write up on the brand and founder earlier this year – click here.
Devinci Bikes
Although their entire line is not made locally, Devinici still manufactures some of their line in Quebec. Their Stevie Smith tribute, the Chainsaw Freeride bike, their E-Troy E-bike, and a few other alloy trail bikes are all made within our Canadian borders.
Bridge Bike Works
Created from the minds that brought you Blacksmith Cycles bike shop in Toronto, Bridge is taking a similar route to We Are One in that they are designing, prototyping, and manufacturing all under one roof. The main difference is they are creating beautiful road and gravel bikes. Check them out for your next dream build.
Marinoni
The longest running brand on our list is Marinoni. After immigrating to Canada from Italy in the 60’s, Guiseppe Marinoni started his namesake brand, Cycles Mainoni, and has been making bikes in Canada for the last 50 years. Making bikes out of steel, carbon, and titanium these days, make sure to check out this option if you’re looking for a new bike from a brand with a long and storied history.
Chromag
Although only about half of their lineup is made in Canada these days, Chromag has been making “hardcore hardtails” in Canada since 2003 and they still have the best options for anyone to ditch their rear suspension. That being said, they have also released a few full suspension models produced on Canadian soil.
Dekerf
As one of our country’s most famous frame builders, Dekerf has made a name for themselves over the years as he has done it all from welding up some of the original Rocky Mountain Bicycle frames in the 80’s, starting up his eponymous brand in 1989, and still building custom frames 30+ years later including doing production work for other brands such as Chromag to this day. If you are dreaming of owning a piece of frame building history, look no farther than Dekerf.
Landyachtz
Founded in 1997 as a skateboard brand, Landyatchz branched out in 2015 with a line of bikes that has expanded since then into a full fleet of all kinds of bikes with anything to suit your budget. From the entry level CB and Spitfire builds all the way up to their 1146 line of custom made titanium and steel bikes, there is something for everyone.
Bassi
The brainchild of C&L Cycles out of Montreal, Bassi bikes has been around since 2009 and has been making simple, no nonsense bikes with the goal of getting people on bikes to explore their surroundings. Still made in Montreal, to this day, check out Bassi if you’re looking for a reasonably priced bike that will last you many years.
T-Lab
Beautiful Titanium bikes made in Montreal are what T-Lab is all about. With road, gravel, and mtb offerings in their lineup, they have something for everyone. As their mission states, they intend “to take the everlasting ride quality of titanium and bring it to the next level of performance” So reach out to them if you would like some more info.
As a nice little bonus, we have 3 more Made In Canada brands from the parts and accessory side of things.
North Shore Billet
Born in 2003 on the North Shore, NSB was created almost in tandem with Chromag as they were hired to create the dropouts for the first run of Chromag bikes ever. Now, more than 20 years later, they are based out of whistler and manufacturing parts for many other companies as well as their own house line of cranks, chainrings, stems, pedals, derailleur hangers, and more.
Pinner Machine Shop
Definitely the smallest company on our list, Pinner consists of one man, Pete Fowler, and his garage based machine shop making small obscure parts. The kind of parts that you didn’t even know you needed but once owned, are wondering how you lived without. He makes Aluminum bleed cups, axles, boost adapters, and more, along with any custom machined parts you may need.
Vorsprung
Another small parts company out of Whistler, Vorsprung specializes in suspension optimization. With offerings such as coil fork conversions, air piston upgrades, custom valve tuning systems, and more. The suspension wizards at Vosrprung have lots of toys to make your bike ride the best it possibly can.
