Bike Coach & Guide Insurance in Canada
Canada’s first insurance program built specifically for bicycle instructors and guides
Commercial general liability and professional liability built specifically for bicycle instructors and guides — whether you coach solo at your local bike park or run multi-day tours with staff.
This Coverage is Designed For
(OVERVIEW)
If you earn money through bike instruction or guiding — part-time, full-time or seasonally — this program was built for you.
Certified instructors and coaches
PMBIA, Global Syndicate and NCCP certified mountain bike instructors, private cycling coaches and skills instructors — including contractors coaching under a larger business, who need their own protection rather than someone else’s.
Guides and tour operators
Road, gravel and trail tour operators, group ride leaders running commercial operations, and multi-day or helicopter-assisted excursion operators — solo or with staff.
Camps, schools and businesses adding instruction
Summer bike camp providers and support staff, cycling schools and coaching collectives, bike fitters, and bike shops expanding into instruction or guided tours.
What’s Covered
Commercial general liability
If a participant is injured or property is damaged during a tour or clinic.
Professional liability (E&O)
If someone brings a claim after relying on your coaching or guidance, even weeks or months later.
Equipment and gear
The tools of your trade: bikes, trailers, tools and portable equipment. Add-on.
High limits for venue work
$5–10 million where a bike park or land manager requires it. Available as an upgrade.
Participant coverage
Lifts, tows, magic carpets, snowmaking, pumps and compressors — the mechanical failures that shut a venue down mid-season.
Optional add-ons
- Abuse liability for youth camps and junior programs
- Non-owned auto for shuttling participants
- Out-of-country coverage for guiding abroad
- Event coverage for clinics, camps and races you host
- Multi-staff and company structures as you grow beyond solo
- Visitors to Canada — travel medical, evacuation and trip cancellation for participants
What’s not covered
- Your own injuries and lost income — liability covers claims made against you, not your own recovery. For that you need personal accident, disability or travel cover, and we can arrange it.
- Gas-powered vehicles and anything requiring provincial plates — those need a commercial auto policy
- Wear and tear on your own equipment.

Coaching & Guiding Insurance FAQs
Still have a question?
Ask us about your services, your certifications or what a venue is asking you for. No obligation.
I coach for a bike park or shop as a contractor. Do I need my own insurance?
It is smart to carry your own liability protection even when you work under someone else’s business. Their policy is written to protect them, and in a sport where terrain, weather and human factors are unpredictable, you do not want to discover the gap after an incident.
My local bike park requires $5–10 million in coverage. Can you meet that?
Yes. High limits for venue and land manager requirements are part of the program. Send us what they have asked for and we will confirm the wording as well as the number.
What is the difference between CGL and professional liability?
CGL responds when someone is physically injured or property is damaged during your session. Professional liability responds when someone claims your instruction or advice itself caused them harm — sometimes weeks or months later. Coaching carries both exposures, which is why the program includes both.
I only coach part-time or seasonally. Is this still worth it?
Yes. The program is built for part-time, full-time and seasonal work alike, and monthly payment options mean the cost can follow your season rather than landing all at once.
Do you offer a discount for PMBIA certification?
Yes — discounted rates are available for PMBIA certified staff.
I run junior camps. Does that change anything?
Youth programming brings abuse liability into scope, and carriers generally expect specific screening and supervision practices as a condition of coverage. Tell us early and we will walk you through what is expected.
Am I covered if I get hurt while coaching?
No — liability coverage responds to claims made against you, not to your own injuries or lost income. For that you need personal accident, disability or travel coverage, which we can also arrange.
I guide outside Canada. Am I covered?
It depends on where and for how long. Tell us the destinations and we will confirm what your policy reaches and what needs to be added.
