Bike Park Insurance & Ski Hill Coverage in Canada
Trusted brokers for Canada’s bike industry since 2020
Purpose-built liability and property coverage for the places people ride — from a municipal skills park to a chairlift-served mountain. Built by brokers who understand terrain, waivers and season-dependent revenue.
This Coverage is Designed For
(OVERVIEW)
Coverage for the operators of the places people ride — whether you sell lift tickets, run a membership, or maintain a park the community rides for free.
Lift-access parks and ski hills
Mountain bike parks and ski resorts running summer bike operations, where lifts, tows and built terrain are the operation rather than an add-on.
Community and municipal parks
Pump tracks, skills parks and community jumps — including non-profit societies operating a park under a licence of occupation from a municipality or land manager.
Private networks and race-host venues
Private trail networks with paid or membership access, outdoor BMX tracks, and any venue that hosts races, festivals or demo weekends on its own terrain.
What’s Covered
Commercial General Liability
Third-party bodily injury and property damage arising from your operations, including occupiers’ liability for everyone who sets foot on your property.
Participant liability
The coverage most standard CGL policies quietly exclude. Covers injury claims from the people actually riding your terrain, not just spectators and passers-by.
Property
Lodges, workshops, rental and demo fleets, tools, lift infrastructure, snowmaking and grooming equipment, and the built features on your terrain.
Business interruption
Season-aware protection for revenue lost to a covered closure, built around the reality that a venue can lose a year’s income in a single bad month.
Equipment breakdown
Lifts, tows, magic carpets, snowmaking, pumps and compressors — the mechanical failures that shut a venue down mid-season.
Optional add-ons — Abuse liability for youth camps, lessons and coaching programs — Liquor liability for lodges, bars and licensed events — Commercial auto for shuttles, groomers, side-by-sides and service vehicles — Directors & officers for non-profit societies and community park boards — Event coverage for races, festivals and competitions you host — Cyber for ticketing, membership and POS systems — Volunteer and trail crew coverage
What’s not covered — Workers’ compensation — statutory through WorkSafeBC, WCB Alberta or WSIB, not something a broker places — Participants’ own injuries and lost income — riders need their own accident and disability coverage — Wear, tear and gradual deterioration of trail features and infrastructure — Vehicles requiring provincial plates — those need a commercial auto policy

Bike Park & Ski Hill Insurance FAQs
Still have a question about your operation?
Every venue is different. Tell us about your terrain and season and we’ll tell you what applies.
Does our waiver mean we don’t need liability insurance?
No. A well-drafted, properly administered waiver is an important defence, but it doesn’t stop a claim from being filed, and enforceability varies by province and by circumstance. Insurance covers the cost of defending the claim even where your waiver ultimately holds.
Are injuries to riders on our terrain covered?
That depends on whether your policy includes participant liability. Many standard commercial policies exclude injuries to the people taking part in the activity — which for a bike park is nearly everyone on site. We check this first.
We’re a non-profit society operating on municipal land. Is this for us?
Yes. Community parks and societies are a large part of this program. We also handle the certificates and additional insured wording your municipality or land manager requires.
Do we need coverage for lifts, tows and magic carpets?
Yes, on two fronts: liability for their operation and equipment breakdown for mechanical failure. These are provincially regulated elevating devices, so your insurance needs to reflect your compliance obligations.
Are our volunteers and trail crew covered?
Volunteers sit in a gap that catches a lot of venues out — they’re often not covered by your workers’ compensation registration and not treated as third parties under a standard CGL. We review this specifically.
Do we pay full premium through the off-season?
Seasonal operations shouldn’t be priced like year-round ones. We structure terms around your operating season and revenue cycle.
We host a race each year. Is that included?
Hosting a competition usually sits outside normal operations and needs event coverage — sometimes as an add-on, sometimes as a standalone policy depending on scale and sanctioning. Tell us early and we’ll build it in.
We run youth camps and lessons. What extra coverage do we need?
Youth programming brings abuse liability into scope, and most carriers require specific screening and supervision practices as a condition of coverage. We’ll walk you through what’s expected.
